Capital Planning Committee approves boiler replacement, defers HVAC study

CANTON — Capital Planning Committee reviews 19 capital requests totaling $2.7 million. The committee approved a $250,000 Fire Department boiler replacement ($46,019 cash capital and $203,981 from Senior Center HVAC surplus) after finding short-term fixes insufficient, and confirmed the $1.81 million ladder truck will arrive in June 2028, funded by ambulance receipts. Central Maintenance Supervisor Robert Martin presented 11 requests; the committee approved a $197,800 DPW highway garage roof replacement (using $100,100 repurposed from the police station roof project) and deferred a $50,000 Memorial Hall HVAC design to reach a balanced budget.
Board of Health Director Meg Goldstein presented a $6,000 vaccine refrigerator/freezer unit to store $25,000 in medications supporting Canton's no-cost vaccine program. Library capital project has risen to $4.9 million and nears bidding phase.
