Canton Village Board Passes Water Infrastructure Resolution, Approves New Police Officer

Town Board · Meeting of June 17, 2026

Canton Village Board commits to aging water infrastructure overhaul and approves new police officer. The board unanimously adopted a resolution pledging to move forward with a drinking water upgrade, citing roughly century-old pipes that generate regular failure alerts from DPW staff; a board member said rate increases are coming and called the project unavoidable, stating "we have to bite the bullet and address the problem." The board also conditionally approved Zachary Montroy as a police officer, pending a psychological exam and medical clearance, describing him as bringing six years of sheriff's office experience to a department with several newer members. Two DPW laborers, Christopher Giacco at $19 an hour and Devin Robert at entry level, were approved alongside summer recreation attendants at $16 an hour.

The board issued SEQR negative declarations for both the storm sewer project and the Levin Riverside Drive project, approved new fire department member Casey Roberson, recognized June as Pride Month, authorized an asbestos survey of the old sewer administration building ahead of planned demolition, and appointed Nick Hamilton to the Honeyfield Planning Board, all by unanimous vote.
