Canton Youth Basketball Association (CYBA) opened registration for a Pre-Season Skills program for players entering grades 5-8, described as a tune-up for winter tryouts. The four-week session runs Saturdays, Sept. 12, 19 and 26, and Oct. 3, at the White Mamba facility at 24 Industrial Road in Walpole, a facility associated with former NBA player Brian Scalabrine. Cost is $60 per player, and CYBA says the curriculum focuses on dribbling, finishing around the rim, shooting and competitive play. Players are asked to bring water, a ball and "a positive attitude," according to CYBA.

CYBA also held the second of its two summer basketball clinics Sunday, Aug. 16, at Canton High School. The clinics were led by Canton High School varsity girls coach Jesse Mitchell and varsity boys coach Joe Sweeney, with sessions split by incoming grade: 4-6 from noon to 1:30 p.m. and 7-9 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Registration was limited to Canton residents and CYBA in-town or travel players, at $5 per player per clinic.
